Before and after you swim

Check conditions first

Read the surf and current report, and ask the lifeguard. If in doubt, stay out.

Never snorkel alone

Go with a buddy and agree on a turnaround point before you get in.

Wear a bright float or vest

Boats see you, and you can rest without standing on the reef.

Use the dive flag where required

Florida law requires a divers-down flag or buoy when you snorkel away from a guarded beach.

Respect closures and reserves

Closed areas protect nesting, resting or recovering wildlife. Stay out of them.

Pack out everything

Bring a bag for your trash and any you find on the beach.
